Eigenschaften

Das Sternbild ist trotz seiner Ausdehnung gänzlich unscheinbar, denn der hellste Stern erreicht knapp 3. Größe. Es liegt zwischen Ursa Maior und Auriga und hat eine Fläche von 545 Quadratgrad. Das Zentrum kulminiert jeweils etwa am 20. Januar um Mitternacht. [9, 15]

Geschichte

Lynx wurde im späten 17. Jahrhundert von Johannes Hevelius eingeführt, um die Lücke zwischen Ursa Maior und Auriga zu füllen. Es heißt, der Name sei eine Anspielung dass man das Sternbild nur mit Luchsaugen würde erkennen können. [7]
