Eigenschaften

Sculptor liegt südlich von Deneb Kaitos des Sternbilds Cetus und östlich von Formalhaut des Sternbilds Piscis Austrinus. Es ist unscheinbar und besteht nur aus Sternen knapp 4.5ter Größenklasse. Die am Himmel vom Sternbild bedeckte Fläche beträgt 475 Quadratgrad und das Zentrum kulminiert jeweils etwa am 27. September um Mitternacht. [9, 15]

Geschichte

Sculptor ist eines der unscheinbaren, fast vergessenen Sternbilder, die 1752 von Lacaille eingeführt wurden. Sein ursprünglicher Name war L'atelier du Sculpteur (Atelier des Bildhauers). Warum es daran erinnern soll bleibt unklar. [7]
