Sternbild Hydrus (Kleine Wasserschlange)

Eigenschaften
Das Sternbild weist keine markante Sterngruppierung auf. Dafür liegt es aber zwischen der Kleinen und der Großen Magellanschen Wolke, südlich des Sterns Achenar am Flussende des Eridanus, und ist dadurch leicht zu finden. Das Sternbild ist mit 243 Quadratgrad Fläche wesentlich kleiner als die Große Wasserschlange. Das Zentrum kulminiert jeweils etwa am 26. Oktober um Mitternacht. Es ist von Europa aus nicht sichtbar.[9, 15]

Geschichte
Der deutsche Himmelskartograph Johann Bayer führte dieses Sternbild 1603 als kleines Gegenstück zur Hydra ein. Es erschien erstmals in seiner Uranometria. [7]
