Eigenschaften

Horologium ist eine amorphe Stelle am Himmel mit Sternen schwächer als die 4. Größenklasse. Es befindet sich zwischen Eridanus in der Nähe des hellen Sterns Achernar und dem ähnlich unauffälligen Sternbild Reticulum. Die bedeckte Fläche beträgt 249 Quadratgrad und das Zentrum kulminiert jeweils etwa am 24. November um Mitternacht. Für Mitteleuropa kommt es dabei eben nur ganz knapp über den südlichen Horizont hoch. [9, 15]

Geschichte

Das Sternbild gehört zur Gruppe jener Figuren, die mechanische Instrumente darstellen und 1752 von dem Franzosen Lacaille eingeführt wurden. [7]
