Eigenschaften

Musca ist mit 138 Quadratgrad ein kleines Sternbild im Band der Milchstraße. Es schließt südlich an Crux an und teilt sich mit ihm ein Stück der Dunkelwolke Kohlensack. Das Zentrum des Sternbildes kulminiert jeweils etwa am 31. März um Mitternacht. [9, 15]

Geschichte

Das Sternbild Musca geht auf Johann Bayer zurück, der 1603 ein Stück vom antiken Sternbild Centaurus abtrennte und es als Apis (die Biene) einführte. Später soll dann Jakob Bartsch das Sternbild in Musca umgetauft haben. [7, 21]
