Sternbild Apus (Paradiesvogel)

Eigenschaften
Apus ist ein unscheinbares Sternbild nahe am Himmelssüdpol, südlich von Triangulum Australe und besitzt eine Fläche von 206 Quadratgrad. Das markanteste Merkmal ist eine kleine Formation aus vier Sternen, die an einen Esslöffel erinnert. Das Sternbild kulminiert um Mitternacht etwa am 21. Mai, ist aber von Mitteleuropa aus nicht sichtbar. [9, 15]

Geschichte
Die Herkunft dieses Sternbild wird meist Johann Bayer in seiner Uranometria von 1603, dem ersten Atlas des gesamten Himmels, zugeschrieben. Er hatte es von Aufzeichnungen zahlreicher Seefahrer der südlichen Hemisphäre aus dem vorhergehenden Jahrhundert übernommen, darunter auch Amerigo Vespucci. Bayer formte insgesamt zwölf neue Sternbilder. [7]
