Volans contains some 4th mag stars and is located in the southwest corner of the constellation Carina on the line connecting Canopus and Miaplacidus. The constellation area is 141 square degrees and the center culminates around midnight on 18 January. [9, 15]

History

The constellation was created in 1603 by Johann Bayer in his Uranometria under the original name Piscis Volansintroduced. [7]
