Open Cluster NGC 1664

History
This open cluster was discovered by William Herschel on 24 October 1786 using his 18.7-inch speculum reflector with 20 feet focal length. He listed it as VIII 59 with the notes: «A cluster of coarsely scattered pretty large stars, not very rich.» [464]

The open cluster cluster NGC 1664 can be found in the constellation Auriga. On 7 December it in opposition with the Sun and is therefore highest in the sky at local midnight.
