Galaxy NGC 7640

History
The galaxy NGC 7640 was discovered in 1784 with his home-made 18.7 inch f/12.8 reflecting telescope in Bath, England. On October 17, 1786 he cataloged it as II 600. [277, 464]
Physical Properties
Distance measurements of this SBc-type galaxy range from 8.4 Mpc to 11.9 Mpc. [145] There are indications, that the increased star formation is due to a recent interaction with a smaller galaxy. [431]
